Bulk Grain Buy
« on: December 16, 2011, 09:24:26 PM »

I know that someone in CAMRA has a done a bulk grain buy in the past.  I was just wondering if anyone is doing this again.  I've even seen where some folks have gotten involved in a Virginia bulk-buy on HomeBrewTalk.

I usually only get a bag of 2-row base malt, but am always looking for a good deal.

On a related question, has anyone bulk-bought specialty grain or hops and split them. (Kind of like a brew co-op I suppose.)

Respectfully,
Kirk

Matt B., a CAMRA member, organizes a bulk grain buy roughly twice a year. He usually posts both here on the CAMRA board and on Homebrewtalk.com. Unfortunately, it looks like he just organized one in the beginning of November and it filled fast, in 11 days!!! That's impressively fast. http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f174/va-group-bulk-grain-buy-4-a-278153/
Splitting 55lb sacks of specialty grain into amounts suitable for homebrewers would be a pain. I mean, how much crystal 60L are you going to use in 6 months-1 year? Just buy it from Fermentation Trap or Fifth Season and support the local businesses.
