« on: February 16, 2011, 08:13:09 PM »

Does anyone know where to find some good and large chucks on some quality granite? I want to heat them up to red hot and use them to carmelize my wort while in the kettle . . .

anyone up for helping with this project? Ill throw in some free beer!

Danny,

I have read about making stein bier, which is similar to what you described.  The homebrew club who did it (and were featured on BasicBrewing), said they got their granite from off cuttings from a tombstone maker.  You could check around town and see if there are any businesses that do that sort of thing.

Here is a link to the BasicBrewing archive that has the stein bier show (Nov 10, 2010):

I just received a ValPak coupon mailing and in it was a coupon for a company in town called Discover Granite & Marble.  They do custom granite countertops and such.  I would bet you could get some scrap pieces from them.
