GABF pro - am competition with Wild Wolf
« on: February 16, 2011, 07:47:40 PM »

I wanted in invite any camra members who were interested to contact me about the GABF pro am competition. I believe you have to have won a gold on the proposed recipe at an aha sanctioned competition. I would love to talk to anyone who thinks they have a good beer to enter

This is very cool. Everyone should reach out to Danny, as it is a great opportunity. I loved doing the Pro-Am with Starr Hill last year.

Danny - According to last year's rules, a beer needs only to medal in a BJCP competition in the last year or so.  So silver and bronze medals are good, too.  Wink

Also, let us know if there are certain styles that you would like to do, or wish to avoid. (Often sour beers are not an option for commercial breweries.)

Beer style does not matter to me really, sour ale would be challenging, and i would prefer something a bit more predictable, but I am up for anything!

Danny, if you have interest in doing another brown, I placed with my brown.  Let see what happens after Nationals!  I'll send you a copy of my recipe, score sheets, and notes.

I thought the rules were you had to place at an AHA sanctioned competition to qualify for ProAm.

you have to place in a bjcp / aha sanctioned event from what I have heard. . . We could give it a shot! We will already be sending plenty of beer this year - unfortunately no brewer though  Cry

Danny,  The 3rd place in the National Homebrew Competition regional 1st would be an AHA/BA/BJCP sanctioned event.  I did place first with my brown at the Colorado State Fair in 2009 (too late for entry this year..)

I've heard two different things:  I've heard that a beer has to be first place/gold in an AHA/BA/BJCP sanctioned event.
The website says: "Select an award winning homebrew from an American Homebrewers Association (AHA)/Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) sanctioned homebrew competition held on or after January 1, 2010"
- Is 3rd place considered an award?  I've always wondered about that.
- Since 1 Jan 10, If gotton a string of third places in the Brown category (Cat 11):
  -- Peterson AFB Brewfest
  -- Dominion Cup 7 Aug 2010 (http://dominioncup.jrhb.org/DomCupWinners2010.php)
  -- Beer Blitz CASK: (http://www.colonialalesmiths.org/BeerBlitz/)

Just a thought!

Kirk

Howver, I do have one down-side:  I've got a 10-week class I have to be in from Sep-Nov so I wouldn't be available to go to GABF if needed.

Kirk - 3rd place is fine. You just have to medal in a BJCP sanctioned competition.

The California Common that I did with Starr Hill last year for the Pro-Am was not a 1st place winner. The AHA had no problems with it.
