The Hot Dry Weather
« on: July 09, 2010, 12:24:46 PM »

I've been trying to keep up the watering for my hops this week, but they are now starting to show some signs of stress.  The bottom of the vines are turning yellow and the cones are starting to crumble.

Has the heat killed off this year's production?

This years heat has for sure messed up my yeild. Last year I got 1 pound of cascade off 3 plants. This year I have 6 plants and will yeild around 4 ounces dry weight!  The hops are also in different stages of maturity, and on a few of the mature plants, the cones are very small. I was watering on a regular basis, but the heat I think is what has done this.  From what I did get, the quality is fine, nice lupulin and aromas. Let's hope for a better summer next year.
