Leinenkugel Sunset Wheat
« on: February 12, 2008, 07:28:33 PM »

I got a six-pack of the stuff at Kroger last Sunday.

This beer has the hazy uniform color you'd expect of a wheat beer like Blue Moon. It poured with a nice thick head that it retained for about half a minute, leaving a lot of lace on the sides.

I could really taste the orange, but it wasn't at all unpleasant. The smell of blueberries is very, very strong, though they are hard to taste through the orange. A very sweet beer, but not cloyingly so.

I will probably come back to it in a few weeks or so. Overall, a drinkable, sweet beer.

I had this on tap last spring at Orbit.  I think it would be great paired with a grilled sausage.  I agree with the tasting notes above.

It has enough orange flavor to be different than you'd expect from a normal weizen but not too much that it overpowers and becomes fruit juicy.  An unexpected and refreshing beer.
