Cascade Rhizomes
« on: March 10, 2009, 05:37:48 PM »

I should have a bunch of cascade rhizomes this year.  Email me at efurstenberg@gmail.com if you are interested.  I will probably dig them up in the next week or two, but can dig some whenever you want.  You are welcome to stop by and taste an APA brewed with some of last years crop.

Thanks for the offer.  I already have a cascade from last year that I neglected for the last 6 months and I peeked at it this weekend and there is already like 20+ shoots that range from 1 inch to 4 inches with leaves already.  If I thought about it sooner I could have chopped off some rhizomes for people as well.

If anyone has Chinook rhizomes that aren't already going nuts I would love to grow some o' dem.

Eric,

Thanks for the offer.  I am definately interested in getting some of your rhizomes again this year.  I neglected the ones you gave me last year and they did survive until planting.  I will be much more careful this year.

Eric,

I'm definitely interested.  I've had a pair of Nugget vines for a really long time and I added a pair of Cascades last year (one of which never came up).  I'd love to replace that dead one.

I'll email you and I'm glad to bring by some my beers in exchange.

Seeing how yours faired quite well over here in the Troy soil, I'd definitely be up for a few cuttings to displace some lame Challengers and the over-exuberant Nuggets I've got planted. Count me in! Thanks.

Eric,

Thanks for the rhizomes, beer, and chat on Friday.  It was nice to catch up with you and your family.  I still have yet to plant the rhizomes, as it has been raining ever since.  Hopefully tonight or tomorrow, but I followed your advice of keeping them in plastic and in the fridge, so hopefully they will be ok.

Thanks again,

Tom

I'll bring a bunch (a dozen or so) of rhizomes to the party on Saturday.  That should be plenty for everyone who has expressed interest.

One cautionary note:  one of my plants had rotted out over winter, and I had some problems with a fungus last year.  I don't know if the rhizomes have anything living on/in them.  I suggest you soak them for 5-10 minutes in a weak bleach solution (1:10) before planting them.  Try to knock off all the dirt, soak, and then let them dry out for a few minutes so the bleach evaporates.  Also, you should consider spraying the vines with fungucide.

My cascade rhizomes from Eric are coming up like gang-busters.  One of them is already taller than my three year old plant.  I don't know what you fed your hops, Eric, but they are stellar.  Thanks for sharing.

The only ones that flowered last year were from Eric. Fantastic!

My hops are back in full swing.

My old Nugget hops are at least 6' foot tall (over my head at least) and the second year Cascades are around 8".  The Cascades I got from Eric are taking off as well.

Definitely take him up on his uber rhizomes if you can.
