Growth of Newly Planted Rhizomes
« on: May 07, 2008, 10:26:00 PM »

I live in Louisa and just found this group.  Excited to see so many home brewers in the area!

I was curious as to how everyone's rhizomes planted this year were growing.

I planted Kent Golding, Fuggles, Cascade, Sterling and Nugget on April 12.

The Fuggles broke ground first and are about three inches high now.  The Nugget just broke ground.

No signs of life from the Sterling, Cascade or Golding mounds.

If that trend continues, and the Nugget and Fuggles continue their growth spurt, hope someone here has some good recipes requiring lots of bittering hops.  Grin

Glad you could join us, Don.  Hops have been a topic on the boards that has gotten a lot of interest this year, given the hop shortage.  I have cascade and fuggles and the fuggles are about 3 feet high now, while the cascade are maybe 12 to 16 inches tall.  Both are second year plants.  I planted two more cascade rhyzomes late in the season this year (gift from Econ_Guy's garden) and they have not come up yet.
