Keg-o-rama
« on: March 12, 2008, 08:25:14 AM »

Hey Doc-
Could you get bundled corney kegs at package prices? It seems like two isn't enough even with one empty and the other only half full of sanitizer.  Grin

Any detail on how many we would need to order to get a bulk discount and what that discount might be?  I am leaning towards kegging, but the start-up cost is making my wife go a bit bonkers.  Anyway I can cut the cost, or show that I am doing all I can to keep it low, would be helpful.

We can give you our resale discount price of 15% off of our retail cost, however many you need.  I can establish a discount code for you to use on the ABS webstore.  Our kegs are under our new Kegging Equipment section that we are working on building, under cornelius kegs. Just let me know.

Thanks for the discount Doc. I'm in the process of warming my wife up to the idea that having more than 2 kegs is the way to go. I'm luring her in with the idea that we could put Jamil's Saison on draft "if we only had a few more kegs." It shouldn't be long. Maybe "camra" could be the 15% discount code. Are the kegs beer-ready or should I be purchasing replacement o-rings and the like?
Growler up that Simcoe and tote it along stealth-style to the next meeting!

Disclaimer: I do not advocate on-premises consumption of homebrew unless legally sanctioned. That being said, I've been know to guzzle away curbside.

Yeah, the kegs come pressurized to ensure that everything is working.  They are completely refurbished.  Shoot me an email through the webstore and I can get you a discount code.  With the discount, ABS is not making any profit due to the weight of the keg and shipping cost we pay for heavier items.  This would be a favor piggyback on our next supplies order for a fellow CAMRA member.  This offer goes to the rest of you as well.  You must live in C-ville as well.  Just trying to hook some brothas up.

Cheers,

-Mark.

"Ahh..excellent Smithers, excellent."
That is, thanks Mark for the kegis maximus hook-up. I'm definitely in for two (ball lock I assume?) and will be ordering next week. What, pray do tell, will the estimated return time be on said cornys?
Let me tell you, the Rodenbach Grand Cru on a Friday evening is a wonderful thing...

Yes, ball lock.  I will place the order on Monday for your 2 kegs, and our usual turnover for special order is 1 week.  Shoot me an email and I will get you a discount code so you can order.  If anyone else needs kegs, now would be a good time to jump in.  Anyone can email me at: mark@absbrew.com  concerning this matter.

Sounds like you are enjoying that keg system?  I know, there is nothing like it.  It is amazing how fresh the beer is, and with quick cool downs with wort chillers (lack of slow-cool oxidation and off-flavors), plus the lack of off-flavors that can show up with bottle fermentation . . . people that drink my beer just simply don't believe it's homebrew.  That right there is worth the effort, not to mention my personal addiction to this whole new world of homebrew on tap.  Especailly this Simcoe Special IPA I have on tap right now.  Wowzers Penny.

Word. I'll drop you an email via ABS on Tuesday... Are your Simcoe kits extract, partial mash, or all-grain?

The fermentable sugar comes from the DME, no base malt in this one.  We wanted it to be an short duration recipe to make a quick, incredible beer. It is my favorite IPA I have ever made. The Phat-N-Hoppy is good and complex with a partial mash, but I guess I am just a sucker for simcoe. The specialty malt bill really makes this recipe.  It blends well with the hop profile. CaraMunich 60L, Carapils, Victory.

I have never used caramunich in my bitters, pales or ipa's but for the past 5 or 6 brews of this style class i have made it point to use about 20 to 25 percent Munich among other grains with a base of pale malt. i love the added complexity of Munich to me it is now a must for my bitters. but i will have to try some caramunich soon now that you  mention it.

Shout out to ABS and Doc for the keg hook-up. Much appreciated. More kegs mean more beer!

Hey no problem Greg.  You do know that your kegs came in last friday.?  Dave Has them if you want to meet up.

The CaraMunich is a different style of Caramel/Crystal malts that we are using in a lot of our new recipes in place of Crystal 40L.  It seems to have more distinct caramel flavor, and does very well with the IPA.  I have tried Vienna 20L malt with our newest BAD ASS AMARILLO IPA, because we wanted to bring out a big malt profile with character to match the 84 IBUs, and hit a BU/GU ratio of 1.3.  This adds a nice malt backbone to IPA, as we have found. I have never tried Munich with an IPA, but will give it a shot on the next IPA recipe.  Thanks for the heads up.

If you like Munich we are currently working on a Munich Dunkel that is a big partial mash with 4 pounds of Munich and a bit of De-Husked Carafa Special II for color and true old school character without the astringency. The current Brew Magazine did a pretty cool article on this old brew, which got us interested.  If you make your own recipes and/or brew all-grain, check it out.

Cheers!
